It’s time to put pen to paper (or use our online submission form) as The Equality and Human Rights Commission has announced a three-week consultation period where everyone is allowed to submit their views on how the Commission should represent four cases due to be heard at the European Court of Human Rights.
All four cases involve homophobic bigoted Christians who have masked their anti-gay agenda behind a veil of religion.
As we have said before, and it’s worth reiterating, religious belief can never, ever trump our right as LGBT citizens to be 100% equal in the eyes of the law of the land.
It’s that simple.
Over the past few weeks we have reported the brouhaha which the EHRC has caused by stating that it was looking to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ for these bigots to continue refusing us services because of their religious beliefs.
The TUC was up in arms, as were many politicians who were hoodwinked into signing an Early Day Motion supporting the bigots – with many MPs later removing their names when the true nature of the EDM became apparent. Peter Tatchell also criticised the EHRC and in the light of this backlash, the EHRC now looks as though it is no longer going to argue for ‘reasonable adjustments’.
In the case of the vile Ladele (Islington registrar who was sacked for refusing to officiate at civil partnerships) and McFarlane (counsellor who refused to work with same-sex couples) it looks as though the Commission will not intervene as according to a statement it believes “that the domestic courts came to the correct conclusions.”
So now is your chance to be heard as the Commission want YOUR views on the matter during the consultation process which ends on 5 September.
You can bet your bottom dollar that plenty of homophobic Christians will be mobilised to make their views known, but what are we going to do?
The same – this is our chance as LGBT citizens to make it known loud and clear that we will not be satisfied if the likes of Ladele are allowed to get away with denying us services because we are gay. We have set up an online submission from to make it easier to take part in the consultation.
The consultation is on the ECHR website – please read through it and take the time to respond.
We have until 5 September! So do it now!

Surely it’s quite simple.
They prove that god exists
We prove that gays exist
Whoever can wins!!!
